Come back home.
Can you come back home?

The days were beginning to get shorter. Snow gradually began to fall more and more every day. The sky was always so dull and sad looking. But the closer the holiday got, the emptier, and lonelier the auburn haired boy began to get.

The hosts were cleaning up the Music room which told him that the day was coming to an end. But still, he couldn’t pull himself from the window. He just watched at the snowed fell quietly.

He was never good with his feelings. He was always too selfish. And that selfishness broke his heart. He couldn’t stand it anymore. Even his own brother couldn’t understand what was going on. He dialed her number too many times to just hang up the phone right after. He wrote enough love letters that got thrown away or drafted and eventually they just got shorter and shorter with every understanding of what he truly wanted.

“Hikaru?” His brother’s soft voice breaks his train of thought. “Yes, Kaoru?” His voice barely audible. “It’s time to go home.” Hikaru nods, his eyes falling to the floor before following his brother out of the classroom.
The car ride was silent and sad. Hikaru just stared out of the window. The empty feeling never left him.

----
“Hika-chan!” She giggled. “You look so cute with your Santa hat on~” She cooed. “Gah, (Y/N). It’s just for today’s club activities.” “But you still look cute! Oh, which reminds me, Hika-chan.” Hikaru’s head tilts to the side, staring at the girl as she holds up a small box. “Since it’s Christmas eve I thought that I would give you your gift today.” Hikaru takes the box from the (h/c). “It’s not much, really. But I made it myself.” He pulls the bow off and pops the top off. Hikaru pulls out the cute, handmade, threaded light blue bracelet. It has a couple of little charms on it, such as a bronze rose and bronze devil horns, or a pair of headphones and a book to signifie her interests. “Ah, you’re so cheesy, (Y/N).” She laughs loudly. “That’s not even the cheesiest part.” Hikaru raises an eyebrow at his friend. She rolls up the left sleeve of her uniform dress to reveal a similar bracelet. The only difference is the color. It has the same charms on it though. “Matching friendship bracelets!” She smiles before hugging Hikaru tightly. “(Y/N)~” He begins to whine. “Ah, you better appreciate it punk, I put a lot of time into making that for you!” She scolds before punching him in the arm as she lets go of the hug.

---
In the room he shares with Kaoru, he lays awake. The room is dead silent besides Kaoru’s small snores. The curtains are closed and any hallway light by their door was shut off hours ago. His chest is tight and the tears running down his face seem to go on forever. It’s nights like this that he wants nothing more than to hear her voice tell him that it’s okay. That everything will be okay.

The bright numbers on the digital clock tell her it’s 2:30 in the morning as she sits up in the dark, all alone, with tears rushing down her face. She reaches for her phone that sits on the night table by her bed and dials Hikaru’s number.
“H-hello?” His voice rasps. “H-Hikaru.” She chokes out. “(Y/N).” Hikaru sounds very awake and alert by now. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” “I had a nightmare.” ‘It’s okay, (Y/N). Calm down. Breathe.” She nods even though he can’t see it and starts to even out her breathing. “Okay. Now tell me what your nightmare was about.” “You. You were really mean to me, Hika-chan. You called me so many mean names. You told me so many horrible things. And then you left! You left me.” Tears slide down her face again. “Please don’t leave me, Hika-chan.” The pleading sound in her voice breaks Hikaru’s voice. “I will never leave you, (Y/N), okay? I promise you. I will never hurt you. I will never tell you anything to hurt you. And I will damn sure never leave you.” “I’m sorry for waking you up.” “It’s okay. Now wipe your face and lay down.” She does as he tells her. “Are you comfortable?” “Yes.” “Okay. Close your eyes.” “Mhm.” “And I’ll tell you a story, alright?” “Mhm.”
As Hikaru finishes his story he can hear her steady breathing on the other end of the phone. A yawn leaves his lips and he stretches his arms a bit. “Goodnight, (Y/N).”
----

Christmas Eve came quicker than he had anticipated. Snow fell outside. The twins family was having their annual Christmas party for family and business partners. But Hikaru wasn’t in the mood to mingle and spread joy. So the boy sat by a window in a fairly empty room inside the mansion. “Hikaru.” Kaoru’s soft calls out to his brother. “There’s a gift for you. I thought you might want it.” Hikaru looks at his brother and takes the small box from him. “Thanks Kaoru.” He lets out a small smile before watching his brother leave the room. At first Hikaru gets the urge to toss the gift aside and continue to mope. But he just sighs and opens the box.
Inside sits a cute, handmade, threaded light blue bracelet. It had a couple of little familiar charms on it, such as a bronze rose and bronze devil horns.

----
“What do you mean you’re leaving?”  “My dad’s business is expanding. And he wants to move to the States.” “When are you leaving?” “Some time next week. I couldn’t tell you sooner because I knew it would be harder to say goodbye.” “So that’s it then huh? You’re just gonna up and leave us. You’re gonna go to the states and make some cool new American friends and forget all about us huh?” Hikaru tone is filled with anger. “Hika-chan, it’s not like that.” Hikaru lets out a laugh. “Yeah, I’m sure it’s not. I don’t know why you even bothered telling me.” “Please don’t be mad at me. There’s nothing I can do.” “There’s nothing I expect you to do! I don’t even know why I’m so worked up. It’s not like you’re anything special anyway.” Her heart drops. “Hikaru, don’t say that. Don’t say things you don’t mean.” “To hell I don’t mean them. It’s true. There’s nothing special about you! You’re just like everyone else. Acting all sweet and innocent, but in reality all you’re gonna do is end up hurting everyone around you. Because that’s all you ever did, mess up everything around you! You know what take your shitty ass bracelet.” Hikaru rips the bracelet from his wrist and throws it to the ground in front of (Y/N)’s feet. “I don’t know why I ever bothered being friends with someone like you.” Hikaru spits and turns on his heels to make a quick dash away from his former friend.
----

Under the bracelet sits a neatly folded note. Hikaru opens the note and takes a deep breath before reading it.

Merry Christmas, Hikaru. x

Nothing more and nothing less. And tears fell down the boy’s face as he sat the gift in his lap.
He just wanted her to come back home.
